What is the cost?

The seminar is free! We are very fortunate to have the financial support of Optimist clubs, corporate sponsors and many volunteers. This allows us to offer our seminar at no cost to students and their families.

Question 2

Can families coordinate carpools, and do you help connect families for ride-sharing?

Accepted Answer

Yes. We do our best to coordinate carpooling for students who may need it. Upon acceptance, a registration form is sent out where students can indicate if they need a ride to/from the seminar. We will then be in touch to coordinate carpooling.

Question 3

Will my child be allowed to use their phone?/ How can I contact my child during the seminar, and how can my child contact me?

Accepted Answer

Students may keep their phones and smart watches with them, but we ask them to be respectful and limit use during programming, especially when speakers are presenting. We will never prevent students from contacting their families if needed. Families will also receive our seminar’s emergency contact number in case you need to reach staff quickly.

Is the venue accessible for students with physical, sensory, or other disabilities?

Accepted Answer

Our seminar takes place on a college campus, which includes elevators and some accessible spaces. We aim to make the experience as inclusive as possible, so we encourage parents or guardians to please contact us in advance at recruitment.wo@hobycanada.org to discuss specific accessibility needs. The conference is high-energy and can be stimulating at times, so students are welcome to bring items like earplugs, tinted glasses, fidget tools, stress balls, or other supports that help regulate sensory input.
