Hey HOBY!

My name is Abby and I am the President of the HOBY Canada Board of Directors! I first joined the Board of Directors team in 2019 during my final year of my undergraduate degree. My journey began as the Director of Alumni Engagement where I began to create opportunities for alumni to stay connected to HOBY and continue to develop their leadership skills with the organization. Since that time, I have held various roles such as Western Ontario Representative, Strategic Expansion, Secretary, and the first ever HOBY Canada Intern! Throughout all of these opportunities, my commitment to the core values of HOBY Canada have only grown stronger and my love for this organization has deepened. I cannot wait to continue the momentum that our programs have built in 2025 as we enter the 2026 year!

I began volunteering with HOBY Canada through my local Seminar site in Western Ontario (2013 alum) and my local Grey-Bruce CLeW. These experiences allowed me to learn about myself, my leadership style (go hawks!) and try new things in a supportive environment where I was inspired, empowered and mentored. Due to the personal development that I have experienced through HOBY, my academic and professional pursuits have been supported greatly. I have been able to gain skills that support me in preparing and achieving my goals. You will often hear me encouraging alumni to get involved in volunteering and connecting with opportunities in HOBY, and it is largely thanks to the immense impact it has had within my own life!

Outside of the HOBY universe, I can often be found with my nose in a book, knitting a new project, writing down plot ideas, or trying a new banana bread recipe! I work within the non-profit realm, supporting women and gender diverse folks through empowering programs focused on activism and community action. My volunteering commitments also include local youth programs and music programs at my church in Calgary!
